City Year New York’s 2008 Village Retreat

Last week CYNY held our Village Retreat for staff and our 29 new service leaders. The two days featured team building, guest speakers and diversity training from our new friends at The Miller Institute.

On Thursday we had our retreat at Bain’s office in Times Square.Bain has sponsored City Year New York teams for the past five year,we were glad to see that Bain has displayed all their City Year thank you plaques in their staff’s cafeteria.

National Service Summit

On September 11th and 12th Be The Change,City Year,Civic Enterprises and the Points of Light Institute will present the 1st Annual National Service Summit here in New York City. This event will feature a town hall event on the 11th followed by a day of meetings on September 12th.

Rick Stengel, managing editor of Time Magazine, wrote an letter from the editor in the most recent issue of Time.

“It is a unique moment for the idea of national service. You have two presidential candidates who believe deeply in service and who have made it part of their core message to voters. You have millions of Americans who are yearning to be more involved in the world and in their communities. You have corporations and businesses that are making civic engagement a key part of their mission.”
