CYNY alum, Falland (Toscano) Hamilton 04-05 was one of 150 AmeriCorps alumni selected to march in the 2009 Inauguration Parade in Washington on January 20th. The group of marchers represents the 550,000 AmeriCorps alumni that have participated in the program over the last 15 years.
“I was honored to represent the amazing network of AmeriCorps alumni on the national level – it was a great way to promote what we do and show our support of President Obama,” said Hamilton. “The parade launched the beginning of a dynamic year for AmeriCorps and I’m thrilled to have participated.” Falland was also selected to carry the New York State flag in the parade which was almost 3 miles long and was attended by over one million people.
Falland currently lives in Washington, DC, is an active member of the City Year DC alumni board and volunteers her time at a local soup kitchen.

City Year in the New York Times (old school)
A friend of CYNY dropped a copy of this article off in our office recently and we all got a kick out of it. The article from Monday, April 30th, 1990 is a great read and it is amazing how much of it applies to our corps members today. It also says alot about Alan Khazei and Michael Brown’s vision for City Year. One quote in particular stands out;”We were searching for a way to change the country for the better. We enlisted each other.” Read the article on the times website(registration required)
