Last month, the City Year team at PS 57 taught the students about “peace and love” during Starfish (our after-school program). After learning about nonviolent leaders such as Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela, the students did a form of service of their own by creating flowers and butterflies out of tissue paper and pipe cleaners. They then gave their work to people whom they appreciate.
I was quite impressed by the creativity of some of the students with their different color combinations and designs. One student named Dasia glued all of her work onto a card she wrote to her family. I was excited and flattered when a couple of students made flowers for me. Overall, the kids had fun and I’m sure the people who received their gifts were very happy. Once again, we thank you for your continued support.
