Below is a statement from City Year New York’s executive director, Itai Dinour.

“For more than 20 years, City Year has been offering idealistic 17-24 year olds the opportunity to give a year of service and develop as public service leaders. Under Mayor Bloomberg’s leadership, City Year New York is one of the largest AmeriCorps programs in the country with more than 220 young people serving full-time as tutors, role models and mentors to schoolchildren of New York City. Today’s announcement will not only engage more New Yorkers in service but brings us closer to the day when the most commonly asked question of a young person will be, ‘where did you do your year of service?'”
