1. Save Americorps – Take Action. Save AmeriCorps by calling your Representative NOW.
Right now the U.S. House of Representatives is debating legislation that would cut $100 billion from the federal budget. The bill, H.R. 1, eliminates funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service and AmeriCorps. This drastic act will immediately remove all AmeriCorps members from schools, after-care programs, health centers, food banks and thousands of other community and faith-based organizations. This is very serious news.
AmeriCorps helps to provide solutions to some of our most pressing social problems. With essential support from AmeriCorps, City Year engages more than 1,750 young adults in full-time service to help turn around high-need schools and get students back on track to graduation. These diverse young City Year AmeriCorps members help to close the education achievement gap by working directly with at-risk children throughout the school year.

Stay tuned for updates all next week, and if you’d like more information on volunteering for either, please contact Allison Szutu (firstname.lastname@example.org)
