City Year Summer Academy 2011 By The Numbers

City Year Summer Academy is officially over and while we certainly miss our friends all over the City Year network, we’ve started reflecting on the past week. Last year’s Academy by the numbers post was a hit, so we wanted to bring it back!

guiding principles of Academy 2011 – Learn. Lead. Transform. We were able to share best practices, reconnect with the mission and values of City Year and review major strategies and objectives for the upcoming year.

8 days in this year’s Academy. This doesn’t include the 3 days of the Diplomas Now Summer Institute that occurred before Academy officially began.

850 staff and Senior Corps Members at this year’s Academy…

76 were from City Year New York! Stephen Grodski, Senior Corps Member, describes his first experience at Academy as “a blasty blast! It was great! I met people from every site and learned best practices. It was a very informative experience.”

200 schools City Year will be in this year in the 21 sites across the United States and 2 international affiliates in London and South Africa.

3.2 million dollars donated by the WalMart Foundation. This grant will help City Year expand training on adolescent literacy and math proficiency.

15,000+ City Year Alumni. We love our Leaders for Life! The new Alumni website will officially launch August 19 so make sure to check back for updates.

7 City Year sites received “Best of City Year” honors. We are excited to share this recognition with  City Year BostonCity Year Chicago, City Year Los Angeles,  City Year MiamiCity Year New Hampshire and City Year Washington DC!
