Wordless Wednesday: Students for Service

Last Saturday, seventeen volunteers from Joint School Activities (JSA), a non-profit organization created and supported by the Parent Associations of Independent Schools in Manhattan and Riverdale, in collaboration with Students for Service, a non-profit that offers year-long service learning and community service opportunities to New York’s high school students, gathered at the Jacob Riis Community Center in Long Island City, Queens for their third annual service day with City Year.

The Jacob Riis Neighborhood Settlement House provides a welcoming place where community members have the opportunity to participate in services and activities that improve their lives including education, housing, health care, employment opportunities, recreation, and the arts. The goal was to completely re-paint the cafeteria, and to clean out and reorganize some of the community center’s classrooms, which are used on a daily basis.

Thank you JSA and Students for Service for giving up your Saturday to give back!
