Help us “Fill Itai’s Boots”

Below is a letter to the City Year New York community from Itai Dinour, sharing that he is moving on as our Executive Director as of July 1st, and will be taking on a new role at City Year Headquarters as Chief Organizational Advancement and Alumni Officer. There will be plenty of time over the next few months to reflect on and celebrate all of the contributions that Itai has brought to CYNY and to our community, but right now we need your help! Dear City Year New York Champions,  

I am writing to share some exciting personal news with each of you and to ask for your help with an important matter.

For the last few years, I would often introduce myself as having the greatest job in New York City. Every day, I got to work with an amazing community of stakeholders, many who have become dear friends, mentors, and partners in making our city and country better.

Over the last decade, together, we:

  • Grew City Year New York from a tribute to the tragic events of 9.11 into the largest site in the City Year network.
  • Developed the first strategic partnership with a major urban school district – redefining City Year’s economic and service delivery model.
  • Innovated how we recruit, deploy, train, and resource City Year corps members to provide critical interventions, support, and mentorship to students throughout some of New York City’s most under-resourced, yet rich and inspiring communities.

Today, after nearly six years as the Executive Director and four years as our founding Chief of Staff, I am emailing to share that as of July 1st, I will be assuming a new role to help City Year meet our ambitious long-term impact goals to combat the high school drop-out crisis. As the Chief Organizational Advancement and Alumni Officer, I will leverage all of my experiences at City Year New York and my continued passion for City Year’s work to attract catalytic investments, deepen City Year’s partnerships, and enhance the ways in which City Year stakeholders across the country collaborate to strengthen our movement. In addition, the role provides me with the opportunity to partner with our community of 17,000 alumni as we seek new ways to mobilize their talents, skills, and resources for the benefit of the students we serve.

Each of you, as dedicated members of the City Year New York community, have played a key role in all of our successes. While I am excited to continue to evolve our partnerships in my new role, I am hoping you can help me with a critical task – finding the next Executive Director of City Year New York.
