Building Team with our Credit Suisse Partners

The PS/MS 50 and PS/MS 57 teams with their sponsors, the Credit Suisse Americas Foundation.

On Friday morning, two City Year New York teams started their day at the Credit Suisse offices just a few blocks away from our own office in Chelsea. Over breakfast, the CYNY teams were able to introduce themselves and met the kind team working for the Credit Suisse Americas Foundation.

The CYNY teams at PS/MS 57 and PS/MS 50 have been generously sponsored by the Credit Suisse Americas Foundation for many years; Credit Suisse became our partner in 2005 with one team in East Harlem, PS/MS 50, and added a second team sponsorship in the same neighborhood at PS/MS 57 in 2007.  It has become a tradition over the past few years to have to have the Foundation meet the new members of their sponsored teams over breakfast at the start of the service year.

“During the Credit Suisse Breakfast, I gained a unique sense of fulfillment, one that is different from what I feel when I see Corps Members on the ground, in the schools, leading and motivating their students each day,” said Frank Wilburn, Program Manager of PS/MS 50. “It was deeply gratifying to understand more about the partnership that Credit Suisse has built with City Year, and to hear the stories of those working to support the work that we do in schools each day.”

Danny Herrera, Program Manager of PS/MS 57, also appreciated the event. “As I think about my future goals, it was really refreshing to learn more about Credit Suisse and its philanthropic contributions,” he said. “The volunteerism and community service that this organization provides should be a model for all organizations. I’m proud to call Credit Suisse our team sponsor for the PS/MS 57 team!”

“Being able to meet with Credit Suisse really invigorated me because I was able to hear from successful individuals who are not only invested in City Year as an organization, but are invested in the personal growth and success of the Corps Members they sponsor,” added Tamara Murphy, Team Leader at PS/MS 50. “I’m looking forward to building a stronger relationship through a future service day, and I can’t wait to invite Credit Suisse to participate in one of our Positive School Climate events.”

Dixie DuRant, Team Leader at PS/MS 57, was also thrilled with the outcome of the kickoff breakfast. “The people at Credit Suisse are so welcoming and willing to help City Year in anyway they can,” she said. “I love that I had the opportunity to have several conversations with different Credit Suisse employees and each of them were truly interested in what we do each day in schools and one person expressed interest in coming to PS/MS 57 and shadowing City Year one day. After the breakfast I have a better understanding of what Credit Suisse does and I am so fortunate to be on a team with such a great sponsor!”
