City Year is now involved in a new national campaign that our friends at Peace First are launching to celebrate young people leading change in their schools and communities! The Peace First Prize will recognize young people for meaningful peacemaking work that creates lasting good in a community, neighborhood or school. The Peace First Prize is open to anyone between the ages of 8 – 22 and will be awarded to five young people who have demonstrated their outstanding compassion, courage and power to create collaborative change.
Winners will each receive a $50,000 Peace First Prize and participate in a fellowship program over two years to further their leadership development and ongoing work. The Prize money can be used to support higher education tuition, and expenses for social justice projects with associated nonprofit organizations. Peace First is also partnering with leading media companies, including CNN, USA Network and Family Circle, as well as celebrity ambassadors to share and celebrate the inspiring stories of young people who are helping to spark a youth peacemaking movement. Applications are open now through April 12. It would be tremendously exciting for a member of the City Year community to be amongst the winners of the Peace First Prize. Please share this information widely, and nominate a young person you know today!
