Today’s guest blogger is Christian Surprise, Corps Member on the National Grid team serving at PS 149 in East New York Brooklyn.
The City Year New York National Grid Team serving at PS 149k spent the day with our sponsor on Friday, February 28th. My team and I found ourselves in Downtown Brooklyn, at the National Grid Headquarters, seeking a new experience to learn from.
We were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet several members of the National Grid team, including their philanthropy relations advisor, representatives from their law department, health professionals, and even their Regional President! From the start of the day, the entire building had a positive vibe and excitement rushed through the office when they saw our City Year red jackets walking through their halls.
Over the course of the day my team was happy to enjoy a breakfast with the National Grid employees, while participating in icebreakers. Explaining what corps members do in schools and learning about the individual roles at National Grid helped everyone in the room create connections. Our team was also thankful for the great conversation about resumes and cover letters that was brought to life by their hiring manager. There was a spark in the air that fueled conversation and smiles, as time flew by!
Before we knew it the impact had been made and the moments well spent. National Grid got share their space, time, and experience with my team. Our team enjoyed a fun Friday capped off by an inspirational, yet relaxed, conversation with Ken Daly, the President of National Grid New York.
It is these partnerships that help bring together the large communities that City Year serves in. The day at National Grid provided guidance and professional development to the team at PS 149k in East New York, Brooklyn. The team is grateful for National Grid’s time and hopes that we can continue the development of this relationship. Thank you for all your support and here’s to making each other better!
